Research Focus

OICE is a central institute of the FAU dedicated to deliver optical imaging methods to researchers from all faculties and adjacent institutions. For this purpose OICE facilitates imaging instruments spanning from 1 mm down to 2 nm of resolution and thus connecting and closing the gap in resolution to electron microscopy. Further OICE can deploy customised solutions if required for special set-up and measuring methods. One field of support is the visualisation of thin films in particular in bio-membranes and surfaces and also crystallisation of substances of various origin to better understand the underlying processes, function or structure and by this to help developing new methods and solutions in the field of (bio-) materials for different purposes.
